Guide · generative-engine optimization

Make accurate answers easier to retrieve, verify and cite.

GEO improves entity clarity, answer-ready passages, source quality and topical relationships. It does not guarantee inclusion in AI answers, and synthetic prompts must never be reported as real customer traffic.

Answer-first passage anatomy

Direct answer → necessary qualification → verifiable evidence → named entity → current source

Implementation

Improve what a retrieval system can understand and support.

Entity clarity

Use consistent names, relationships, authorship, ownership, dates and product facts across authoritative pages.

Citation-ready passages

Answer a bounded question directly, then support it with specific evidence and appropriate limitations.

Retrieval paths

Build crawlable topic relationships, descriptive links, structured data where valid and accessible source pages.

Measurement design

Keep three evidence classes separate.

  • Synthetic approved probes: controlled prompts and captured responses
  • Observed citations: engine, response, cited URL and timestamp
  • Real analytics: referrals and conversions actually recorded by authorized providers
  • Page changes: exact deployment annotation and observation window
  • Brand demand: query and direct-traffic context without assumed causation

Limitation: answer engines are external and variable

Responses can differ by model, location, personalization and time. Probe sets are samples, not a census. A missing citation is an observation, not proof that content is invisible everywhere.

Worked example

Replace vague authority language with verifiable product facts.

Weak: ‘The most secure autonomous SEO platform.’ Better: ‘SEOForge requires an authenticated human to approve each production proposal; API, CLI and MCP clients cannot approve, merge or deploy.’ The second passage is bounded, attributable and testable.

Questions

Know the boundary before connecting production.

Is GEO different from SEO?+

The surfaces differ, but both benefit from useful content, clear entities, crawlability and trustworthy evidence. GEO adds explicit attention to retrieval and citation behavior.

Should schema be added everywhere?+

No. Use structured data only when the visible content and page type satisfy the vocabulary and search-engine requirements.

Can SEOForge guarantee citations?+

No. It can measure approved probes and prepare improvements, but answer-engine inclusion remains external.

Paid deployment · human authority

Measure AI visibility without turning probes into pretend traffic.

Deploy the paid workflow after defining engines, prompt cohorts and evidence rules.
