Glossary · content decay

Content decay is a sustained loss of organic value that evidence can distinguish from normal noise.

The loss may appear in visibility, qualified engagement or conversion contribution. A short fluctuation is not enough; compare appropriate windows and investigate query, SERP, page and technical context.

Why it matters

Undetected decline compounds; premature refreshing creates churn and destroys a clean baseline.

In practice

Measure persistence before choosing an intervention.

Example

A guide loses nonbrand clicks across two comparable 28-day windows while its former queries shift to more current implementation pages.

Measurement

Segment page/query clicks and impressions, compare suitable periods, check seasonality, deployments, index state and SERP composition.

Response

Investigate update, consolidation, redirect or no change; attach a baseline and outcome window to any approved proposal.

Paid deployment · human authority

Detect decay continuously without manufacturing refresh work.

Choose a paid optimization plan when provider history and approval ownership are ready.
